Thanks for popping in to my blog. This entry explains why I chose to create the brand 'MyNew30'.
Being 30

Thailand 2001 |
I remember being in my 30s and feeling really strong and powerful - I no longer felt like a floundering teenager/young adult, I had finally found my feet in a career that paid well enough to not have to worry about basic necessities and even allowed a few luxuries, I was doing stuff that made me feel happy and alive including staying fit: lifting weights, practicing karate, running, and doing aerobic dance exercise regularly. If I may say so, I was quite fit at age 36 with about 9 stone and size 10! The Thai massage therapists in Phukhet used to laugh and chitter when they asked me how old I was and whether I had any children...

Thailand 2004 |
I did actually have a baby at age 37. I was in great shape, I stayed active throughout my pregnancy, and I felt great! I actually managed to lose weight while I was pregnant, mainly because the thought of food often made me feel nauseous, and I mostly craved fresh fruit. Post-partum I was in good physical standing to get back to my previous of strength - if it had not been for the failing marriage, eventual separation, and divorce.

UK size16 |
Scroll forward - becoming a single mom and leaving my home at age 40, I managed to stress eat myself into a 14.5 stone, size 20-22, sedentary state. After earning my PhD and relocating to the UK, I slowly lost 2 stone by age 50. A few years later managed to lose another 3 stone - arriving back at my 30-yr-old size/weight and in good physical fitness. However, I found myself trapped in a toxic work environment that plunged me back into the murky waters of excessive distress, self-loathing, and stress eating.

MyNew30
The brand name MyNew30 (KaesNew30, and YourNew30) is a play on the phrase 'orange is the new black' or '40 is the new 20' etc. It's my way of embracing the idea that any age or current segment of your life-journey can be your 'new 30' or whatever 'new you' or 'new thing' you want to be.
I am aiming to make 60 my new 30, and looking to achieve a set of fitness, health, and career goals for living out my later years. I intend to chisel and carve the me I want to be with the abstract notion of that 30-year-old me as a guiding force: the me who was healthy, successful, and thriving.
I've been there before; I can go there again.
What do you want your new 30 (or new whatever) to be?
